THE LIZARD
To the west lies the Lizard Peninsular with its unique combination of geology and climate (due to the benefit of the Gulf Stream it is the warmest place in mainland Britain) making it a naturalist’s delight with seals, basking sharks and dolphins often seen swimming in the shallow waters off the coast.
Lizard Point itself has a brooding and awe-inspiring beauty, with its lighthouse flashing out its 29-mile beam to guide mariners navigating the English Channel. Close by is the largest operational satellite station on earth at Goonhilly Downs - a visit to which is an absolute 'must' for all visitors to Cornwall
