DISCOVER CORNWALL |
GARDENSGARDENS OF CORNWALL - Cornwall’s gentle winter climate, enhanced by the Gulf Stream, has created a host of truly exquisite gardens providing a stunning showpiece of scent and colour which has drawn envious gardeners to the county from all over the world.
Springtime arrives early in the Royal Duchy and many of our gardens are at their best from February onwards. Our 'Go-As-You Please' garden holidays which allow you to visit the gardens of your choice as and when you wish are the perfect break for those who wish to enjoy Cornwall’s living treasures. With a total of twelve participating gardens, each guest receives two free vouchers for a 3-day stay or four free vouchers for each 5-day stay, inclusive of dinner, bed, breakfast and VAT (see tariff for full details and prices). This year’s choice of gardens are: - BOSVIGO which features a series of enclosed and walled gardens surrounding a Georgian house (not open to the public) with many rare and unusual herbaceous plants; BURNCOOSE NURSERIES AND GARDENS - a 30-acre woodland garden with 25 different species of bamboo and situated alongside a working nursery featuring over 2000 varieties of trees, shrubs and plants; CAERHAYS CASTLE GARDENS - an informal 60-acre woodland garden, created by J.C. Williams who sponsored many of the early plant hunting expeditions to China and which is noted for its Camellias, Magnolias and Rhododendrons and the EDEN PROJECT, opening in the spring and already described as the 'eighth wonder of the world'(two vouchers per person for this very special visit). A'must' is the LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN, subject of numerous television programmes and the largest restoration project in Britain with more and more of its historic past being uncovered year by year. LAMORRAN HOUSE with its sub-tropical hillside garden and extensive Mediterranean and Japanese water gardens; PENJERRICK with its wild woodland setting and home of barclayi and penjerrick rhododendron hybrids; TREBAH, the dramatic and uniquely beautiful sub-tropical 26-acre ravine gardens leading down to the Helford River; TREGREHAN, created in the early 19th centuary by the Carlyon family and specialising in species from warm- temperate regions; TREVARNO ESTATE AND GARDENS and the national museum of gardening with a fascinating history dating back to 1246.
